Revelation Breathwork for Healing Trauma and Anxiety
Anxiety is exhausting. And, we all deal with it.
For many of us, we can find ourselves in cycles where it feels like the mind never stops moving. Our thoughts loop. Stories and worries repeat. Our bodies get tense. Sleep can become unpredictable.
Even when life is “good”, there can be a feeling that something isn't quite right.
Trauma shows up similarly.
Sometimes we know exactly where it came from.
Oftentimes, we don't. And for those of us who go to therapy, we often finish feeling somewhat unresolved.
Sometimes trauma is connected to major events. However, it’s often the result of an accumulation of smaller events, relational patterns and dynamics, stress accumulating from work, responsibilities, cultural impact, overwhelm, loss, heartbreak, or simply feeling unsafe.
Whatever the source, trauma and anxiety have a way of pulling us out of the present and out of our joy and connections into looping stories around the past or future.
The mind replays loops of what happened and we lose touch with our innate essence.
This is one of the reasons revelation breathwork, whether via private sessions or online breathwork classes are so powerful for making real embodied progress with healing from trauma. The breath brings us into the body, and our traumas, dysregulation, memories and emotions live in the body. Its’ not as scary as it might sound! As we know, there’s something deeper beneath all of that within the body.
Often, to process memories and emotions we need to first feel and acknowledge them, and breathwork is a great way to not only get access to our bodies and bodily sensations, but to feel our feelings and the many layers of feelings that emerge within that.
For example feeling our anger can lead to feeling layers sadness, ando grief which can open us back up to more joy and connection. Feeling opens us to having a greater capacity for life. It might also give us intuitions of certain actions we need to take or create space in our lives.
The breath brings us back into the present.
Back into what is actually happening right now in our bodies. Breathwork sensitizes us to life and life’s truths.
Like I always say in our breathwork classes, the breath does the work.
At Revelation Breathwork, we have watched people arrive carrying years of anxiety, stress, grief, fear, and emotional weight. Not because there is something wrong with them and not because they need to be fixed, but because life can be hard sometimes.
Many of us are carrying far more than we realize.
One of the beautiful things about breathwork is that it gives these experiences a place to move. But, the reality is we need to feel to release and to move.
Through Revelation Breathwork, emotions that have been pushed down often begin to rise to the surface. Old memories may emerge. Feelings that have been trapped in the body for years may finally have an opportunity to be felt or to speak what they need to say. You may also feel surges of energy moving through your body.
Sometimes this looks like tears.
Sometimes anger.
Sometimes grief.
Sometimes relief.
Sometimes there are no big emotions at all.
Sometimes there is simply a deep exhale and a feeling that something has finally let go.
Every journey and every online breathwork class is different.
The breath knows where to go and we trust that the body is perfect and wise!
One of the things we hear most often from people who struggle with anxiety and trauma is that they spend much of their day in their heads. We also here that there’s not enough feelings of safety and support.
Breathwork creates an opportunity to step out of the stream of thinking to reconnect with our Selves and to rediscover what that even means. Feeling our feelings in a group space, and reembodying ourselves also cultivates a deep sense of safety in the body.
Two of the reasons our online breathwork classes are so effective for trauma and anxiety is because people are able to practice from the comfort of their own homes (safety, ease and comfort), and we are showing up together. We’re not doing this alone. We are no longer holding our pain alone. And we break through the confines of isolation.
It’s just easier to get shit done together.
There is no pressure to perform.
No pressure to share.
Your camera can be on or off.
It’s a safe space to be.
Healing starts to happen when the body begins to feel safe enough to let go.
So while everyone is in their own space, we are also breathing together. People from around the world (73 countries!) gather every week inside a loving field of support, healing, and community.
The music is also an important part of the experience.
Every online breathwork class is carefully curated with music designed to support our emotional processes.
Sometimes music helps us access emotions that have been hidden beneath the surface.
Sometimes it supports release.
Sometimes it supports rest or peace.
Sometimes it simply reminds us how much beauty still exists in the world.
The journey often takes us into places we've been avoiding.
And then gently brings us back.
As a recap, Breathwork is helpful for healing from trauma and clearing out our anxiety because it brings us back into our bodies. It helps us to feel what’s beneathe the surface, to remember who we really are, and to cry, release and let go. It helps us to trust our bodies again and to trust our senses.
Underneath the experiences that taught you to disconnect from yourself in the first place, the breath reconnects us with something deeper.
We call it God.
Some call it Spirit.
Some call it the Self. And, still others call it the Universe.
The name doesn't matter nearly as much as the experience.
